Build 44. Radius Arms
Before starting on this I decided to look a few more pages ahead and work out if anything was missing that would stop me finishing the rear off. It turns out I'm missing a few more M6 washers and the Rear Anti Roll bar clamps, so another email was fired off to CC to get those sent out to me ready for that part.
Fitting these was quite straight forward and enjoyable, the manual doesn't call for copper grease, but as this is no different from the front setup, I decided I would use it on parts that need to move a bit more freely, mainly so I could take it apart if needed. I just needed to make sure that it wasn't on the thread parts that would engage with the nyloc nuts.
As I'm building the Variant, the arm sits on the lower cockpit mount shown in the pictures below, I first got the bolt for that in place and secured the radius arm to this part loosely so it was easy to manoeuvre into the back part.
To slot the back part in, I used some off cuts I had from a cedar fence I was building, I used this by twisting it inside the bracket, which opened it up enough for the rear part to slot in (all be it tightly still).
Then all that was left was to use the piece of wood and rubber mallet to gently tap the Dedion tube and the arm to get them to align up ready to be bolted together. I again used copper grease on parts that will engage with the actual arm itself, and also on the insides of the washers pressing up against the Dedion tube.
I haven't torqued these up yet as that needs to be done when the weight of the car is fully resting on the suspension, this will come after fitting the A frame next.
